Sioux County Capital of March 27, 1979

Steve P. Faber, age 83, of Sioux City, formerly of the Orange City area, passed away March 22 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Steve was born February 28, 1896, at Alton, the eldest son of Pier and Clara Faber. In the Faber family of seven children, he is the first to pass on. On December 27, 1917, Mr. Faber married Hattie Pals, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Pals, Sr., at Orange City. They had four children. Mrs. Pals passed away January 10, 1952. Steve served in the United States Army during World War I, and was an active member of the American Legion for several years. He later was granted a lifetime membership in the Disabled Veterans of America.

Steve spent most of his life in the Sioux County area. For the few years before retirement, he worked in Sioux City, and maintained his residence there until age 81. Mr. Faber had recently been living at a nursing home in Rock Rapids.

He is survived by three children: Mrs. L. (Evelyn) Luymes, of Newport Beach, Calif.; Conrad, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Donald (Frances) Kooiker, of Rock Rapids; 8 grand- children, one great- grandson; and six brothers and sisters; Mrs. William (Fannie) Duistermars of Orange City; Charles, of Ocheyedan; Jack, of Hull; Mrs. Jake (Agnes) Dykstra, of Orange City; Sam, of Raymond, Minnesota; and Mrs. M.T. (Ann) Bolluyt, of Starbuck, Minnesota. In addition to his wife, Steve was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. J.C. (Clara) Wenzel. She passed away in 1970 at Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral services were held March 26 at the Van Etten - Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Karl Bratt of the Christian Reformed Church in Sioux City officiated. Pressman - Kosters Post of the American Legion performed military rites at the graveside in West Lawn Cemetery.
