Mary Pierce Cole Fitch, 93, of Hudson, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Funeral service was Monday at First ongregational United Church of Christ in Hudson, with the Rev. Elaine Miller officiating.

Burial was in Eden Cemetery at Hudson. Porter Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Fitch was born at Platte, S.D. on Oct. 2, 1908 to Robert and Julia Pierce Cole. She moved to Hudson with her parents in 1910. She received her education in the Hudson Public School and at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. She taught school in eastern Iowa for two years, returning to Hudson where she taught for six years.

She married Donald Fitch on Oct. 5,1935 at the Riverview Farm near Hudson. They lived in Hudson and farmed near Hudson. Mr. Fitch died in November of 1984. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship of the church. She taught Sunday school for many years and held many church offices. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Women's Study Club. She was the librarian of the Hudson Public Library for many years.

Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Fitch of Hudson, Nancy Wickre of Hawarden and Lois Steiner of Mont Glair, Va.; son, Robert of Yankton, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three brothers, Rolfe Cole of Hudson, Hobart Cole of Hudson and Robert Cole of Story City, Iowa; two sisters, Ruth Henkels of St. Augustine, Fla., and Lois Jeanne Statz of Storm Lake, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Avis Cole of Sioux Falls and Virginia Fitch of Ukiah, Calif.

She was preceded in death by husband, Donald; brother John Cole and sister Helen Cole.
