Harold Albertus Bolks, 94, Hull, died Wednesday, December 7, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were Saturday December 10, at the original sanctuary of American Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Steven Bierly officiating. Burial was at Hope Cemetery in Hull, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Harold Bolks, son of John Bliss and Ruth (Weaver) Bolks, was born November 9, 1911, in Hamilton, Missouri. He was raised on a farm near Hull. He attended country school for eight years and then completed two years at Hull High School. He married Augusta Emma De Boer on June 28, 1932, in Doon. They farmed near Hull until 1936, when they moved into town. He then operated Bolks Meats and Lockers in Hull. He later was an automobile mechanic and became a partner in the Ford dealership in Hull. In more recent years, he was a salesman at D&S Chevrolet in Hull.

He was a member of American Reformed Church in Hull. He was a faithful volunteer at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, where he developed warm and caring relationships with many of the residents. He enjoyed repairing clocks and watches, as well as many small appliances.

Survivors include his wife, Augusta Bolks of Hull; two sons, Harvey and Annabel Bolks of Rock Valley, and Lauren and Hester Bolks of Gilbert, Arizona; two daughters, Evelyn Jones of Cedar Rapids, and Marlys and Willard Rowenhorst of Orange City; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, LaVonne Kroese of Sheldon; and a brother, Alfred Bolks of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Hannah Rae Guthmiller and Nathaniel James Lewis; a brother, Lloyd Bolks; and four sisters, Hazel De Boer, Ester Kooiker, Irma Zwiep-Derr and Viola Gurkink.

Memorials may be directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
