Clifford Harlan Pals was the eldest child of Cornelius Pals, now deceased, and Claire (De Vries) Pals, who survives. His three sisters and brother also survive; Harriet Van Vugt and husband James of Mesa, Arizona; Harold (Al) Pals and wife Pat of Orange City; Charlene Prins and husband Norman of Blooomington, Minnesota; and Carolyn Porter and husband Randy of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Cliff attended schools in Orange City and graduated from Northwestern Junior College and the University of South Dakota before beginning work with Pals Transfer Inc., based in Orange City. He was President of Pals Transfer in the 1950's and 1960's until its sale in 1964 when it was the largest intrastate trucking firm in the state. He then moved to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area where he was self-employed in a variety of sales work.

On October 19, 1951 he married Barbara Carlson of Sioux City, who survives. They were divorced in 1968. They had five children who all survive: Steven Pals and wife Cynthia and Peggy Vande Brake and husband Larry of Orange City; Cedrick (Rick) Pals and wife Kathy of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; Jefferson (Jeff) Pals and wife Marge of Chandler, Arizona and Thomas Pals of Kumamoto City, Japan. He is survived by fifteen grandchildren.

On April 4, 1969, he married Norma Johnson, who survives. He is also survived by Norma's daughter Kris Parker and husband Jim and their three childrn of St. Paul, Minnesota.
He died in his sleep at home.
