Helena Elizabeth Zomer, 96, Rock Valley, died Wednesday, August 7, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. today (Saturday, August 10) at Netherlands Reformed Church in Corsica, South Dakota, with the Rev. G.M.De Leeuw officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Corsica, South Dakota, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Helena Zomer, daughter of Cornelius and Petron Ella (Bal) Spaans, was born September 27, 1905, in Schevenigen, The Netherlands. The family moved to Waupon, Wisconsin, when she was 4 years old. They then moved to the Corsica, South Dakota, area when she was 12.

She married Herman Zomer Sr. on January 15, 1925, in Corsica, South Dakota. They farmed in the Corsica area. Mr. Zomer died October 6, 1973. She moved to Rock Valley in 1994, where she lived until she moved to Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley in June 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Herman Jr. and Jeane Zomer of Rock Valley, and Clarence and Marlene Zomer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three daughters, Hermina Rozeboom of Rock Valley, Nellie and Cozyn Rozeboom of Inwood, and Betty Rozeboom of Rock Valley; a daughter-in-law, Joane Zomer of Sioux Center; 61 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Zomer; a son, Cornie Zomer; two sons-in-law, Dick L. Rozeboom and Dick G. Rozeboom; a grandchild; and five great-grandchildren.
