Died: 7-16-1946Albert B. De Haan was found dead in his home in Orange City, July 16 by his daughter, Mrs. John L. Mouw. She had gone there to call on him shortly after dinner and found him lying fully clothed on the bed. Death was due to a heart attack, suffered some time Monday morning. Mr. De Haan had been seen around the yard by neighbors early that morning.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 18, in the home at 1:30 and in the First Reformed Church at 2 o'clock, with Rev H. Colenbrander officiating. Burial was in the Orange City cemetery.
Mr. De Haan was born in Pella, August 26, 1867, and came to Sioux county at the age of 7 years, and with his parents homesteaded on a farm two miles east of Orange City. In March of 1892, he was united in marriage to Hermina Oolman, and they settled on a farm three miles west of Orange City. She preceded him in death September 1, 1944.
They were the parents of nine children, seven of whom survive. They are Henry A., Jake, Ella (Mrs. Clarence Balkema, Herman, Florence (Mrs. John L. Mouw), all of Orange City, June (Mrs. Henry De Wolf) of Minneapolis, Minn., and Vernon of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Henry Heemstra died in July, 1941, and one son passed away in infancy. He also leaves a brother, Gerrit and his sisters, Mary and Jennie De Haan, all of Orange City.
