Peter B. Bouma, 86, of Sheldon, formerly of Hull, died Wednesday, November 4, at the Northwest Iowa Health Care Center in Sheldon.

Services were held 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull. The Rev. Bernard J. Haan officiated. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Hull.

Mr. Bouma was born March 2, 1901 in Hull. He was the son of Bert Bouma and Mary Gritters Bouma. He graduated from Western Christian Academy in Hull and William Penn College in Oskaloosa. On June 28, 1928, he married Helen Bertha Nieuwenhuis at Prinsburg, Minn. He began his teaching career at a country school northeast of Hull. He and his wife established Christian schools in Oskaloosa and Escondido, Calif. From 1934 to 1943, he was principal of the Hull Christian School. He also taught classes in several other Christian schools. After a 52 year career, he retired in 1972 at the age of 71.

About 20 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Bouma moved to Hull. In 1985, they became residents of the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. Last month, they transferred to the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. He was a former member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull and the church's Men's Society. He taught catechism classes there and led Bible studies.

The Boumas were strong supporters of Western Christian High School in Hull, where memorials are being directed.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Betty) Jonker, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Mrs. Kenneth (Judith) Zigterman, Sheldon; and Mrs. Glenn (Jacqueline) De Jong, Alton; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Delia Krommendyk, Sioux Center; Mrs. Bertha Van Surksum, Hull; Mrs. Hattie Te Grotenhuis, Sioux Center, John Bouma, Doon; Mrs. Gertrude Moss, Rock Valley; Mrs. Jeanette Van Beek, Sioux Center; and Otto Bouma, Hull.

He was preceded in death by a grandson and a great-grandson.
