Gertrude Mantel, 80, of Orange City died Thursday, January 23, in an Orange City hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 25, in the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Cecil Martens officiated. Rev. Frank Snuttjer was in charge of the family service at 9:45am.

Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mantel, the former Gertrude DeRoo, was born November 6, 1905, at Newkirk. She married Cornie Mantel January 21, 1926, in Orange City. The couple farmed in Sioux County before moving to Orange City. Mr. Mantel died August 21,1975.

Survivors include two sons, Jacob and Les, both of Orange City; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Harriet) Gorter of Worthington, Minnesota; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Mantel of Hull; a brother, Henry of Brooten, Minnesota and three grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornie and one sister, Martha Vander Broek.
