Richard Doescher, 73 Sioux Falls, former Hawarden area resident died Thursday, Oct 19, 2000 at Covington Heights Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service was Saturday, Oct 21, at the United Methodist Church in Winner, S. D. with burial at Winner Cemetery. Mason Funeral Home, Winner was in charge of arrangements.

Richard LeRoy Doescher was born Dec. 7, 1926 in Beemer, Neb. to Richard and Rose Marie (Vach) Doescher. When he was three, his parents were killed in a train accident and he went to live with his aunt and uncle, Jo and Mary Konapaske.

He entered the military after graduating from Beemer High School in 1944. He served in Japan during World War II. He married Magdalene "Megs" Heinecke in Wisner, Neb. They lived in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church Sunnycrest; Lay leader of the church in Hawarden, a Boy Scut Leader and a baseball coach. He was a life-time member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife Megs; four sons, Richard Jr. of Champagne, Ill., Randy of Mitchell, S.D., Tom of Des Moines and Chris of Madison, S.D.; four daughters, Rose Enders of Jenison, Mich., Rhonda Hanson, O'Neil, Neb., Judy Arthur, Vitten, S.D.and Cheryl Doescher of Sioux Falls,; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother Dale of Galva, Iowa. A special cousin Midge Schlect of West Point. Neb.
