Miss Mary L. Bowers, aged 94, of Alton, passed away Friday, March 23, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

Mary Lucille Bowers was born July 30,1889, at Hillsboro, N.D., but lived in Alton most of her life.

In 1919, after she joined the staff of the Alton Democrat newspaper, where she was co-publisher and co-editor with her brother George. she retired in 1967.

In May of 1982 she became a resident of the Heritage House.

Miss Bowers was a charter member of the Christian Science Church of Alton, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Floyd Post in Alton, and a member of the Business and Professional women of Alton and Orange City.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her three brothers, Clem, Will, and George.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 26, athe Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Mrs. Barbara Larsen, Firt Reader of the Chrstian Science Church in Sioux City, officiated. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton.
