From the Alton Democrat on July 6, 1922:

Francis Kidson, for many years a resident of the Ireton and Maurice vicinity, passed away Sunday at his home at Humboldt, Iowa. His death was came as result of a complication of troubles which began with anaemia (sic) from which he had suffered but a short time and his friends little realized that the time of his departure was so near. His remains were brought to Ireton Wednesday and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon conducted by the family pastor I.N. Caldwell assisted by Rev. O. L. Carr and internment was made in the Ireton cemetery.

Francis Kidson was born in Yorkshire, England April 11, 1843 and died at Humboldt, Iowa July 2, 1922 at the age of 79 years 2 months and 21 days. He came to America with his parents when 8 years of age and for a period of 14 years living in Pennsylvania. In October, 1864 he enlisted in the Union army as a member of Company E, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry, with which regiment he served during the remainder of the war, being honorably discharged in July, 1865.

In 1869, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Sarah Decker and they came west and settled in Plymouth County, Iowa where they lived until the death of his wife which occurred in June, 1892. Four children were born to this union, two of whom preceded him in death. Mrs. Emma Harding of Rockford, Illinois and Mrs. May Klink of Le Mars, Iowa survive him. Mrs. Klink and her two daughters, Frances and Mildred, were at his bedside at the time of his death. On Jan. 9, 1900, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Heidt at Anamosa, Iowa. They moved to Sioux County in March of the same year and continued to reside in this county until 1920 when they moved to Humboldt, Iowa to live with and care for Mrs. Kidson's mother, Mrs. L. Heidt. Mr. Kidson was a member of the G.A.R. post at Ireton until it was forced to disband on account of its diminished numbers
