Hildebrand (Brandt) Den Ouden

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Christian Ref. Church for Hildebrand (Brandt) Den Ouden, 71, who died at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, April 27 at the Hawarden hospital following a brief sickness.

Mr. Den Ouden had been in failing health for some time but recently was improved and assisted with the spring planting at the Walter Vander Hamm farm. He became critically ill Friday evening and entered the hospital Monday passing from this life the next day.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Paul Honderd of Le Mars and interment was made in the family plot in Pleasant View cemetery. Pall bearers were Edw. and Oscar Heidbrink, John Van Wyhe, Delbert Dittmer, Walter Vander Hamm and John Van Zanten.

Survivors include his wife Katherine, one son Cornelius of Ireton, and four daughters, Alice at home, Mrs. Willard Huitink of Orange City, Mrs. Madge, Dan De Ruyter of Monteka, Calif., and Mrs. (Johanna) Wm. De Vries of Mill Valley, Calif. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three brothers: Nys of Edgerton, Minn., Bert of Bellflower, Calif., and one brother in Holland.

Mr. Den Ouden was born May 28, 1883 in Haarlen Maneer, Nederland, came to the United States as a youth of 19, and settled first at Maurice and later at Ireton, where he lived until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and two children. He will be missed by his family and a wide circle of friends.
