Last Rites Held For Mrs. Houlton

Funeral services for Mrs. Fay (Bertha) Houlton, 68, former Hawarden and Ireton resident who died following surgery at Corpus Christi, Texas, were held there Friday with Oliver Tunell and Fred Pluss of Sioux Falls attending the services from this area. Interment was at Corpus Christi.

Mrs. Houlton was born August 11, 1896, in Aaran Kanton Argan, Switzerland, a daughter of Rudolf and Bertha Pluss.

She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 7 and grew up in the Ireton community where she married Fay H. Houlton in 1919.

Born to this union were five children, two of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. Houlton was a member of Two Oakes Post American Legion Auxiliary in Hawarden, the Oak Park Methodist church at Corpus Christi and the U. S. C. S.

She had been a resident of Texas the last 14 years, 10 of which were spent in Corpus Christi. The Houltons at one time operated a cafe in Hawarden.

Survivors include the widower; three daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Belva) Tunell, Mrs. Don (Myrna) Haines and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Miller; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Poster's note: According to Mrs. Houlton's mother's obituary, Mrs. Houlton was the daughter of Bertha (Hunzicker) and John Rudolf Pluss.
