Nellie Davelaar, 82, of Sioux Center, died Sunday, August 25, at Fellowship Village in Inwood.

Services were held Wednesday at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, the Rev. Robert Holwerda officiating. Casket bearers were Loren Davelaar, Mike Davelaar, Garold Davelaar, Wendell Davelaar, Mark Davelaar and Joel Ploegstra.
Scott Visser sang “Beyond the Sunset” and Because He Lives,” with the congregation singing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and My God How Wonderful Thou Art.” Gloria Wynja was organist. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

She was born July 6, 1909, in Sioux Center, the daughter of William and Florida (De Stigter) Wassink. She lived her youth in the Sioux Center area and attended Sioux Center Christian School. On February 2, 1934, she married John Davelaar in Sioux Center. The couple farmed in the Sioux Center area until retiring in 1963. He died July 27, 1990. She became a resident at Fellowship Village in 1989.

She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, where she was involved with the Sunshine Circle. She was a member of Homemakers of Sioux Center.

Survivors include five sons and their wives, Henry John and Mary of Bigelow, Minnesota, Bill and Hertilda of Maurice, Arnold and Linda of Anacortes, Washington, Floyd and Joyce of Rock Valley and Gerrit and Eleanor of Inwood; three daughters, Carolyn Ploegstra of Denver, Florence and her husband, Orville Koolman, of Orange City and Nelvia and her husband Dave Starkenburg, of Wyoming, Michigan; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Hubers of Pantago, North Carolina, Tena Mulder of Bellflower, California, and Bertha Hubers of Grandville, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Kathyrn Wassink, of Sioux Center, and one brother-in-law, Rich Rens, Sr., of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen; an infant brother, Arend, a brother, Arend Tunis; three infant children, Helen, and twins, Muriel and Marvin; and one great-grandson, Wesley Davelaar.
