Mrs. Ethel G. Van Oosterhout, age 90, of Orange City, passed away Sunday, June 1, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. She was the widow of federal judge Martin D. Van Oosterhout.

Mrs. Van Oosterhout was born March 3, 1896 in Marion County, the daughter of Ardenne Greenway and Stella Reaves Greenway. She graduated from Iowa State University at Ames and then came to Sioux County as a home demonstration agent. On June 16, 1928 she married Martin D. Van Oosterhout at Pleasantville. They made their home in Orange City. He passed away January 28, 1979 at Orange City.

Mrs. Van Oosterhout was a member of the American Reformed Church, one of the original members of the Department of Primary Education, and past president of the Iowa, the Sioux County, and the Orange City Federated Women’s Clubs.

Survivors include her son Peter of Cleveland, Ohio and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Evert Van Engelhoven and Rev. Stanley Vander Weide officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
