Alton Democrat of Dec 3, 1904

Rev. Brune went to Sioux City Wednesday evening to attend the funeral of Rev, Michael Grady on
Thursday who died last Saturday evening at Tucson Arizona of tuberculosis. Rev, Grady was sent to
Maurice about two years ago and while there had charge of the Struble parish also and a substantial church structure stands there as a monument to his energy.

He was formerly a clerk in W, H. Livingstone's dry goods store in Sioux City prior to his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained about nine years ago. He celebrated his first mass in Sioux City in what was then St, Mary's church but now the cathedral. Dean Treacy of Sheldon directed him through the first solemn ceremony and also preached on that occasion.

Last May Rev. Grady left Maurice for Boulder Colorado hoping that the climate there might benefit his failing health. He stayed there until about a month ago he journeyed to Tucson Arizona. There he gradually failed until the end came. He endeared himself to his brother priests and the people over whom he was placed in charge and his life was that of an ideal priest.

The funeral held on Thursday morning was attended by nearly all the priests of this section of Iowa. Dean Treacy of Sheldon preached the funeral sermon at the request of the deceased's sister Mrs. Mary Cary who wired from Arizona immediately after her brother's death for him to do so if possible
