Alice Dodeward Services Held Tuesday, May 19

Mrs. Alice Dodeward, 78, a lifetime resident of the Rock Valley area, died Saturday night [May 16] at Valley Manor nursing home in Rock Valley after a long illness. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed church. The Rev. Henry Poppen officiated. Burial was in the Valley View cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral home.

Mrs. Dodeward, the former Alice Van Wyhe, was born December 30, 1885, at Alton. She married Frank Wynia in 1907. Mr. Wynia died in 1918. She was married to Neal Dodeward on January 10, 1924. He died May 26, 1960.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lyle Rowland of Rock Rapids, Mrs. John Ver Burg of Alvord, Mrs. Lawrence Larson of Ramona, S.D., and Mrs. Paul Boom of Beaver Creek, Minn.; a son, John Wynia of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. John Vande Voren of Lester; two brothers, John Van Wyhe of Rock Rapids and Lee Van Wyhe of St. Charles, Ill.; and 23 grandchildren.

A similar obituary in the Sioux Center News (May 28) adds that she was preceded in death by two sons, her parents, several sisters and brothers.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has her born 30 Dec. 1895, but this is inconsistent with her stated age and the year of her first marriage.
