TUNIS OVERMAN, SR.

Tunis Overman, sr., a resident of Rock Rapids since 1943, died Saturday, December 21, at a Sioux Falls, S. D., hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 24, at the Jongewaard funeral home and the First Reformed church of Rock Rapids. Rev. William C. DeJong, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in Riverview cemetery.

Mr. Overman was born May 13, 1891, in The Netherlands, and came to America in 1906. He was married to Fredreka Voortman on January 30, 1913, and they farmed in Sioux, Lyon and Osceola counties before moving to Rock Rapids in 1943. She died on May 3, 1949.

Survivors include four daughters Henrietta (Mrs. Alfred Franken) of Rock Valley, Rona (Mrs. Lawrence Bleeker) of Sioux Center, and Gertrude (Mrs. William Styksema) and Dena (Mrs. Arthur Wildeman), both of Rock Rapids; four sons, Gerrit William of Larchwood, Marion of Sioux Center, Ted, of Rock Valley and Tunis, jr., of Rock Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. William Mc-Alpine of Sheldon, and Mrs. Albert Dykema [*note: nee Gertie Overman] of Worthington, Minn.; 34 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Herbert Remmerde, Roland Bartels, Roger De Haan, Loren Bassel, Tony Bleeker and Darrell De Boer.
