Henry W. Huisman

Mr. Henry W. Huisman, age 71 of Orange City, passed away Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. The memorial services were held on Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Sajdak officiated. Interment was prior to the service at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City was in charge of arrangements.

Henry William was born January 7, 1927, in rural Maurice, the son of Nicholas and Minnie (Huitink) Huisman. On February 18, 1948, he married Geraldine Nibbelink in Orange City. They farmed near Maurice for fifty years. In September of 1990, they moved into Orange City. Henry was a member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where he had served as an elder and a deacon on the consistory. He had also been a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Cooperative Association in Orange City. In addition to farming, he was a seed corn dealer, and he loved woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Barbara Viss, and her husband, Carl of Ripon, California; Marvin Huisman, and his wife, Joyce of Maurice; Elaine Stockmeier of Macedonia, Ohio; Shirley Huisman-Jezowski, and her husband, Jezy of Sioux Center; and Sharon Geels, and her husband, Randall of San Diego, California; eighteen grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Vander Meide, and Dorella Kleinhesselink, and her husband, Joe all of Orange City; a brother, Alvin Huisman, and his wife, Evelyn of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and a brother-in-law, John Bergsma of Orange City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Bergsma; a brother in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Harvey Vander Meide. Memorials are being directed to the Orange City Christian School, Unity Christian High School in Orange City, and Dordt College in Sioux Center.
