Peter Van Beek

AKRON, Iowa— Peter Van Beek, 59, Union County farmer, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1988, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls after a brief illness.

Services were held Saturday in Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron with Pastor Timothy Mason and Pastor Jalmer Eldal officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near Akron with grave side rites conducted by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron and the Moose Lodge of Spencer. Mr. Van Beek was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Rock Valley. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, England. He married Ann Bridges Dec. 29,1951, in Handwell, England. The couple made their home in Bryan, Texas, for seven months, moving to Hawarden where they lived for nine years and then farmed in the Akron area for many years. Mr. Van Beek was very active in the Farm Crisis Committee at Verdigre, Neb.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Debbie) Heyl of Hawarden, Mrs. Jerry (Robin) Hansen of Vermillion, S.D., and Mrs. Jeff (Lee) Wolf of Akron; two sons, Russell and Grant, both of Akron; four sisters, Geraldine Zwak of Sioux Falls, S.D., Everdeen Zwak of Derby, Kan. Katherine Van Zee of SiouxCenter and Mary Ann Zhart of Alburnette; two brothers, John of Irene, S.D., and Clarence of Arlington, Wash., and eight grandchildren.
