Jean Vander Schaaf, 90, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, November 27, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Services were at 10 a.m., Monday, December 2, at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. Vander Schaaf, was born November 15, 1906, near Lebanon, the daughter of Henry & Gertie (Grevengoed) Vande Burgt. She received a two year elementary teaching certificate from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Sioux Falls College, in Sioux Falls. She taught in Holland, Michigan; Pella,IA., and Colton, South Dakota. She married Richard S. Vander Schaaf on June 12, 1935, in Lebanon. The couple lived in Colton until 1977, when they retired to Rock Valley. He died July 28, 1996. She was a resident at Pleasant Acres Care Center since July 1996.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and the Martha Circle in the church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Millie & James Vanden Berge of Highland, Indiana; a son, James and his fiancee, Anna Ledoux of Bath, Maine a sister, Willi Hendriks of Orange City; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name to Rock Valley Christian School.
