Leroy Vos, 76, of Kingsley, Iowa, passed away Friday morning at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City surround by his family. Leroy battled courageously for 4 years against Leukemia.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars, Iowa (326 7th St. SE) with Reverend Ken Vander Ploeg officiating. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Casket bearers will be Troy Widman, Tyler Widman, Taunya Thomas, Alex Vos, Brian Vos, Kollin Derynck, Kellen Derynck and Logan Grenko. Honorary casket bearers will be Haley, Rachel, Mackenzie, and Kyla Grenko, Kip and Cael Vos, Tommy Thomas, Lindsey, Cassidy, Haylee, and Riley Widman, Carson and Cole Thomas, and Tate Widman.

Leroy was born in Hull, Iowa August 19, 1936 to Clarence and Jennie (Moss) Vos. He attended elementary through his junior year at Hull, Iowa. Moved his Senior year to Kingsley, Iowa and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1955. He also attended Iowa State University.
He married June Elaine Jansma, whom he often referred to as “The Love of His Life” on April 26, 1957 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Leroy and June were engaged in farming, hog buying and trucking through 1969, at Rock Rapids, Iowa. The family moved to, Kingsley to join his father Clarence and brother Lowell in the family cattle feeding and farming operation. In recent years Leroy continued to farm and was an owner /operator of Leroy Vos Trucking, doing long distance hauling from coast to coast.

He was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Le Mars, Iowa for 44 years, he held the office of Elder and Deacon numerous times. He was a past Director of the Plymouth County Cattlemen’s Association. He enjoyed attending the local county fairs, watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren display their 4-H projects and attending many of their activities as possible. Though the course of his life, Leroy had the ability to strike up a conversation, formed lifelong friendships, and always had a positive outlook on life.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, June of Kingsley; three children, Janna Widman and partner Craig Walton of Lawton, Iowa; Clinton Vos and partner Carmen Derynck of Lawton, Iowa; Russell (Nomi) Vos of Hinton, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren: Troy(Lindsey) Widman, Taunya (Tommy) Thomas, Tyler Widman, Brian Vos, Kollin and Kellen Derynck; Logan and Haley Grenko, Alex Vos, Rachel, MacKenzie, Kyla Grenko, Kip & Cael Vos; six great grandchildren: Cassidy, Haylee, Riley and Tate Widman and Carson and Cole Thomas; his mother-in-law, Jennie Jansma of Rock Rapids, IA; two sisters, Carole Nolan and her husband Robert of Branson, MO and Nelsena Hall and her husband Ronald of Sioux City; a brother, Lowell Vos and his wife Judy of Kingsley and several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Clarence and Jennie Vos, Father-in-law Walter Jansma, Brother-in-law Tony Jansma and Son-in-law Randy Widman.
