Sioux County Capital, Orange City, September 8, 1994

Dora Bolkema, 85, Sheldon, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994 at the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Hospers Cemetery, followed by Memorial Services at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Jay Wesseling officiated.

Dora was born March 26, 1909 to Syje & Fredrike Woertink Jacobsma on a farm near Sheldon. She received her education in country schools. In 1927 she was married to Andrew Vander Berg. After that marriage, the couple farmed south west of Sheldon for many years. Mr. Vander Berg died in 1973. In 1981 she married Koos Bolkema in Hospers. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Sheldon. In 1988 they moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, and in October, 1992, Dora became a resident of the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.

Mrs. Bolkema was a former member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers and was a Sunday School teacher and was active in the music department of the church. She later became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon and was a member of the Golden Hour Circle of the church.

Survivors include her husband Koos; step-children, Beverly and her husband Calvin Heemstra, Orange City; Helen and her husband James Bilsland, Sioux City; and Kenneth and his wife Janice Bolkema, Sheldon; nine step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew; parents, three brothers, Clarence, Horton and Henry; and two sisters, Jennie and Mabel.
