John S. Bolkema, 63, a Pipestone area farmer, died of heart failure Thursday in the Pipestone County Hospital.

Mr. Bolkema was born Feb. 15, 1921 in Hospers, Iowa, and grew up and was educated there. He entered the Army during World War II and served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre. After his discharge, he married Margaret Postma, Dec. 26, 1946 in Rock Valley, Iowa. They farmed in that area until 1962, when they moved to a farm southeast of Jasper, Minn. In March 1974, they moved to their present farm south of Pipestone.

He was a member of the Jasper American Legion and the Pipestone Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; four sons: Sherwyn, Denver; and Arlin, Loren and Glenn all of Pipestone; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Janice) Rickey, Denver; six grandchildren; his father, Sjoerd Bolkema, Rock Valley; two brothers: George, Prinsburg, Minn. and Harold, Grand Rapids, Mich; and seven sisters: Mrs. Leonard (Bernice) Van Otterloo, Sioux Center, Iowa; Lucretia, Sheldon, Iowa; Mrs. Clarence (Clara) Sybersma, Platte; Mrs. Jake (Angeline) Bomgaars, Hull, Iowa; Mrs. Martin (Lorrene) Breems, Sanborn, Iowa; Mrs. Roger (Mathilda) Honderd, Grand Rapids, Mich, and Mrs. Richard (Phyllis) Van Regenmortar, Sioux Center.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday in the Christian Reformed Church, Pipestone. Burial was in the New Woodlawn Cemetery, Pipestone.
