William Bolkema, 89, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, April 9, 1991 at the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Mr. Bolkema was born Oct. 23, 1901, in Oldekerk, The Netherlands, the son of John & Bordziena (Venema) Bolkema. He came to the United States with his family at the age of 9, settling near Hospers. He married Dena Krommendyk, Feb. 16, 1927, in Hull. The couple farmed near Sheldon and later near Rock Valley.

Mr. Bolkema was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rodney and his wife, Hester, of LeMars; two daughters, Bernice Ymker of Rock Valley and Frances and her husband, Howard Zeutenhort of Hawarden; two brothers, John of Inwood and Koos of Sheldon; a sister, Sadie Krikke of Sheldon; 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers; one sister, and a son-in-law John Ymker.
