Hazel Irene Keehn was born Aug. 2,1914, the daughter of Henry and Delia (Patrick) Keehn at the family farm south of Hawarden. Hazel attended country school in rural Sioux County. At an early age, her mother died and she took over the Keehn household. She developed her cooking skills and became an excellent cook. She married Warren Wasser on Jan. 11, 1937. They made their home on a farm south of Hawarden until they retired, moving to Hawarden in September 1974. Warren died Jan. 6, 1992. She was well-known for her Sunday dinners of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy. Warren had no troubles getting cattle buyers to come look at his

finished steers, as they knew they would be treated with homemade cookies and coffee.

No one ever left their farm hungry. She kept her home in Hawarden until her health forced her to move to Hillcrest Healthcare Center in the spring of ' 2009. There she resided in the same room and was very meticulous as to its upkeep. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hawarden. She took pride in working with the hospital auxiliary and spent many hours in her home cutting out tags for them to use.

Hazel is survived by daughter, Norma (James) Petry of Hawarden; son, Dennis (Kay) Wasser of Ireton; four grandchildren, Steve (Cherie) Petry of Wagner, SD, Susie (Mike) Karbo of Burke, SD, Scott (Kelleigh) Wasser of Newburgh, NY and Dana (Andy) Schmillen of Omaha, NE; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brock Karbo, Paige, Payton, Parker and Payne Petry, Anna,

Drew and John Schmillen; sister-in-laws, JaNohn Wasser and Ann Wasser, both of Hawarden; and many nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren; and brothers, Lloyd and Lawrence.
