Urban J Dykstra, 66, of Alton, passed away Thursday, May12, at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City after an illness of one year

Urban James was born April 14, 1917, at Lynden, Wash., the son of Ulbe J Dykstra and Josee Ottema Dykstra. He served in the United State Army during World War II. On Nov. 12, 1948, he married Bertha Celesta Schnoes at Alton. They made their home in Alton; Where Urban was a clerk in the Post Office and later rural mail carrier, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Dykstra was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Alton, the Rural Letter Carriers Association, the National association of Retired Federal Employees, Floyd Post 2oo of the American Legion in Alton, Clarence Schweback Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Granville and the Disabled American Veterans He was a sustaining member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as Scoutmaster in Alton for many years.

Survivors include his wife; five children; Mrs. Gayle (Debra M.) Dahlkoetter of Homer, Neb; Lt. Col. Kenneth U. in the Coast Guard; Mrs. Bruce (Linda K) Smit of Orange City; Elec. Tech. II Roger J in the United State Navy; and Lnc. Cpl. David J. in the United State Marine; five grandchildren; and three brothers and sister; John Of Galesville, Wis., Mrs. William (Gertrude) Juffer of Orange City and Richard of Penryn, Calif.

Urban was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Ronald and brothers, Dick, Jake, Nick and Elmer Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The Rev David Johnson of the United Presbyterian Church officiated. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral home of Orange City.
