Jack Vande Weerd
Jack Vande Weerd, 79, of Rock Valley died Monday, June 27, at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church, Rock valley. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery.

Vande Weerd was born June 12, 1926, at Rock Valley, son of John Jr. and Anna (Boon) Vande Weerd. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, from November 1944 to November 1946. He married Jennie Smidstra on April 28, 1950. They lived at Rock valley where he worked for Standard Oil station and later Hiway Chevy. He also was a part time policeman for Rock Valley and school sporting events. His wife died May 22, 1973.

He married Alice Vande Weerd on October 17, 1973. They moved to Valley Manor in July 2002, and she died August 27, 2003. He enjoyed camping, fishing, baseball, watching western movies, reading Zane Grey novels and, most of all, time with family and friends. He is survived by 10 children, Ron and Helen Vande Weerd of Jacksonville, Florida, Alan and Emilie Vande Weerd of Sac City, Dorothy and Henry Sage of Jacksonville, John and Noreen Vande Weerd of Orange City, Bonnie and Rod Kooima and Carol and Dennis Doherty, all of Inwood, Sharon Vande Weerd of Rock Valley, Gloria and Brad Koele of Moville, Gary and Elaine Vande Weerd of Sioux Center and Tom and Jody Vande Weerd of Rock Rapids; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Van Kley of Jenison, Michigan.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cornie Vande Weerd; and sisters Adeline Jensen, Henrietta De Vires, Josephine Altena and Marion Kuiper.
