John C. Otis Passed Away March 13th at Reeder, N. D. John C. Otis, an early day resident of this community, died at Reeder, N. D. March 13th from a sudden heart attack. Only two weeks before his death he had accepted a position as manager of an elevator at Reeder and was preparing to move his family to that place from Pierpont, S. D., when fatally stricken.
John Christopher Otis, son at John J. and Sarah E. Otis, was born in Union county, S..D., Nov. 7, 1882, so was past 62 years of age at the time of his death. He was educated in the Union county public schools and also attended school in Hawarden, Millnierville and Sioux City. His father was one of, Union county's pioneers and built and operated the old Otis mill on the banks of the Sioux river, west of Chatsworth, and in the early 90's for a time was engaged in the mercantile business in Hawarden. In 1899 he, moved with his parents, brothers and sisters to a farm near Langford,. S. D., where he remained for about ten years, after which, he engaged in business at Pierpont.
On July 2, 1913, he was united in marriage with Miss Olga Raffelson, who with their two children, Bemice and Jay, survives him. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ed. Larken of Hudson, S. D., Mrs. W. G. Waddel of Webster, S. D., and Mrs. George Funston of Aberdeen, S. D., and four brothers, William and Ernest Otis, both of California, and Ray and Jerome Otis of Aberdeen.
