Obituary for Johanna Jongewaard reads:
Funeral services for Mrs. Johanna Jongewaard, who died on December 22, at her home in California, were held at the Central Reformed church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Klaaren officiating. Burial was in the cemetery here.
Johanna Christina Jongewaard was born March 2, 1885, to Dirk and Jannetje Vander Meer at Orange City. She was graduated from the Orange City high school in 1902 and taught rural schools in the county until her marriage to Albert C. Jongewaard in 1904. Following his graduation from Rush Medical college in Chicago in 1904, the couple moved to Sioux Center where Dr. Jongewaard established his practice. They spent from 1914 to 1923 in Montana and then returned to Sioux Center where they resided until Dr. Jongewaard's death in 1938. Mrs. Jongewaard moved to California that year and had made her home there since.
She was a charter member of the W.C.T.U. here and was active in the Woman's Club and the Central church ladies aid.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Helengene Baldwin, Tower MN; Mrs. Melba Robertson, San Pedros, Brazil; Mrs. Judith Layne, Seattle, WA; Mrs. June Guthrie, Hopkins, MN and Miss Beverly Jongewaard, Detroit, MI; and two sons, Richard of Oakland, CA and Albert of Downey, CA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sara Van Steenbergen of Mitchell, SD, and two brothers, Neal Vander Meer of Alton and Jacob Vander Meer of El Paso, TX.
