MRS. M. OSSEWAARDE
Jennie Neland Ossewaarde, widow of Rev. Martin Ossewaarde, a former pastor of Central Reformed Church, Sioux Center, Iowa, was Born July 21, 1870, in. Kalamazoo, Mich. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Neland. She had a brother and sister who preceded her in death several years ago.

She made confession of her faith at the age of fourteen years and became a member of the First Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. She was married to Rev. Martin Ossewaarde on May 11, 1892, who preceded her in death July 8, 1915.

To that union were born three daughters, Ann, Jedidah and Cornelia, now Mrs. Frank Andrews of Milwaukee, Wise., Mrs. George De Ruyter of Sioux Center, la., and Mrs. Henry Costing, Durham. N.C.

Mrs. Ossewaarde passed away very unexpectedly, Tuesday evening, Jan. 27, 1948. Rev. and Mrs. Ossewaarde served pastoral charges in New York City, East Williamson, N.Y., Clymer, N.Y., Summit, III.. Prairie View, Kans., Pella, la., and in Sioux Center. Iowa. Mrs. Ossewaarde leaves six grandchildren: George Martin, David, Daniel and Mark De Ruyter; Jir and Joy Oosing. One grandchild Artur James De Ruyter passed away in 1938. There is one great grandchild, George Martin De Ruyter, Junior.

Mrs. Ossewaarde had been making her home with her children for the past several years and arrived here this fall to spend the winter months with her daugther the De Ruyter family. When Mrs. De Ruyter left for the hospital at Iowa City for a major operation about three weeks ago, her mother was taken to the home of Mrs. Lillian Van Zyl who cared for her. There she suffered a stroke early Tuesday morning and passed away that same evening.

Mrs. Ossewaarde kept in touch with old friends in all former congregations served by Rev. Ossewaarde and herself. She had hundreds of friends who loved her dearly for her thought and prayers and deeds were always for others.

Quoting from a letter which the daughters received from Rev. A. Haverkamp of Pella, who knew Mrs. Ossewaarde well. “You have the happy memory of a good saintly mother, a devoted Christian who served her Master faithfully and loyally with all her God given powers. Hers is now the reward which the Master has promised to his faithful ones."

Funeral services held Saturday afternoon Jan 31, at Central Reformed Church. Rev B. VerSteeg was in charge of the services. He was assisted by Rev. Mansen of Orange City and old friend of Ossewaarde family. The deceased was laid to rest in the family plot in the Sioux Center Cemetery.
