Arrangements by Vander Ploeg'sDel was born on November 28, 1917 in Sioux Center to Anthony and Agnes (Dykstra) Te Paske. He was a graduate of Sioux Center High School,Northwestern Jr. College, Hope College and the University of Iowa where he received a Masters Degree in political science. He taught school at The American College in Athens, Greece from 1938 to 1940. He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945 attaining the rank of Captain. He graduated from the Army Staff and Command School and served with the 164th Infantry Regiment in Australia, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Bougainville and the Philippines.
After the war he served in the diplomatic corps for ten years as a consulate for the US State Department in both Germany and Mexico.
On April 6,1945 he married Yette Ramaker in Sioux Center, Iowa. They moved back to Sioux Center in 1954 where Del became the Executive Vice President of The First National Bank until he retired in 1979. He and Yette established The Travel Center in 1956 and operated it until 1990.
Del loved to read and travel and enjoyed many hours maintaining their beautiful yard. He was extremely active in community affairs and was a member of the American Legion and the Central Reformed Church.
The survivors include: his wife, Yette; a daughter, Juliana and her husband, David Garrett of Richmond, Virginia; a son, Judson R.
and his wife, Susan Te Paske of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren; and one sister, Amy Broad of Quincy, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Maurice Te Paske.Source: Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home, Sioux Center, IA., obit.
