Rock Valley: Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic Church Thursday morning for Mrs. James Gourley, who died May 5 after a lingering illness.
Mary Flynn was born in Rock Valley on February 18, 1901. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy
in 1919, and taught rural schools in the county for five years. She later worked in Pembers Drug Store.On June 13, 1939 she was married to James Gourley at St. Mary’s Church. The made their home on the Gourley farm near Hudson until her illness. She was the mother of two children, Catharine Ann and Rosemary, who survive with their father. Also surviving is a sister, Miss Kathryn Flynn.
The Gregorian Requiem High Mass was said by Father William Hyland of Ayreshire, IA as celebrant; Father David Mc Goey of Rock Valley as deason; and Father Leo M. Klem as subdeacon. The choir was under the direction of Mrs. H. A. Barnard. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Sioux Valley Funeral Home of Hudson, SD.
