Services Held for John Smeenks[sic]

Funeral services were held Monday at the Community Reformed Church at Sioux Falls, S.D., for John Nelson Smeenk, 23, of Harrisburg, S.D., who passed away very unexpectedly in his sleep, Thursday, January 21. Rev. William Rosenberg officiated at the services. Vocalists were Mrs. Thomas Jellema, Mrs. John Timmer, Robert Van Ningen and Edward Van Berkum. Mrs. Larry Long was organist.

Active casket bearers were MSGT Lowell R. Voigt, TSGT Condy G. Baker, TSGT Earl W. Johnson, SSGT Roger W. Gullickson, A1C Charles L. Eide and A1C Charles R. Friese. Honorary pallbearers were Leonard Welter, Martin Welter, Ronald Swanson, William Kruse, Larry Long and Gary Knudson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; one daughter, Lila, 13 months old; has parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smeenk; two brothers, Merlyn and Norman and one sister, Donna, all of Harrisburg, S.D., and grandmother, Mrs. John Vander Meulen of Orange City, Ia.

Full military rites were held at the Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls, S.D., where burial was made.
