Dell Leonard Dead

Dell Leonard died at the home of his parents on the North side [of Hawarden] at 8 o'clock last evening, after an illness of about five weeks' duration. He was taken with bilious fever, after which other complications set in which carried him away. He was born in New York and would have been 31 years of age in December. He has been a resident of this vicinity from boyhood and has a large circle of friends, together with relatives, to mourn his death. The funeral will be held from the M. E. church Friday at 2 p.m.

Obituary.

Delbert Balney Leonard was born December 1, 1868, in Jefferson county, N.Y. He came west with his parents at the age of five and settled in Linn county, this state, where he remained until 1884, when he moved to Sioux county. He was married December 7, 1893, and died October 25, 1899. A little girl, brother, father and mother survive him. Whom in the hour of their grief we can but commend to Jesus Christ, who knoweth for every sorrow, and who is an ever present help in time of trouble, our Savior and our Redeemer.

A search of the online Digital Archives of Sioux County yielded these results:

From the Sioux County Herald, Dec. 12, 1893: marriage license issued to Delbert V. Leonard, 25, and Dollie E. Morrow, 19.

A brief news note on their marriage (Hawarden Independent, Dec. 7, 1893) also gives his middle initial as V.

Presumably this is the same Delbert Leonard, but no concrete proof.

Nothing more on this couple was found between their marriage and his death.
