FATALLY INJURED IN AUTO ACCIDENT

Oscar Younker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Younker residing eight miles southwest of Rock Valley, died Wednesday morning [October 7] from the effects of injuries received in an auto accident which occurred Sunday evening four miles southwest of Lebanon. The young man in company with a lady friend, Miss Wagnor, was driving way from the latter's home. A quarter mile from the Hoyer farm he apparently lost control of the car which was overturned and he was pinned underneath it. Miss Wagnor was thrown clear of the wreck and escaped without injury. Being unable to raise the car enough to release Mr. Younker she hastened to the Hoyer home for assistance and Mr. Younker was taken from under the car and carried to the Hoyer home where he remained until death claimed him.

How the accident happened is not known, further than that the car went off the grade and was apparently overturned by the efforts of the young man to bring it back into the road. The grade is not considered steep and had the car been allowed to take its course the accident might not have occurred.

Doctors from Hawarden and Dr. F. J. Huizenga of Rock Valley were called and at first they thought there was some hopes of his recovery, although it was very apparent that he was badly injured, the lower part of his body and his limbs being paralyzed. Pneumonia set in the next morning and this together with internal injuries hastened the end. He was conscious almost to the last minute and bore his suffering bravely.

The deceased was a young man twenty-three years old last July. Practically all of his life had been spent in Sioux county. He was a splendid young man and will be greatly missed in the neighborhood where he had lived. During the past two months he had been working with a threshing crew tending the separator.

Funeral services will be held from the German Lutheran church seven miles south of Rock Valley Friday afternoon. The bereaved parents and other relatives have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their great sorrow.

Oscar Younker, a young man about twenty-three years old, son of A. Younker of Garfield township, was seriously hurt in an auto accident last Sunday evening and died from his injuries Tuesday night. He seems to have lost control of the car on the road south of the Wegener schoolhouse in Eagle township and the machine tipped over, falling across and breaking his back. The young lady, who was accompanying him, was thrown clear of the car and escaped injury.
