Obituary: Ireton, IA—Alvin "Knobby" VanDenBerg, age 85, died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Hillcrest Healthcare Center. A private family service will be held Wednesday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Alvin was born December 26, 1926 to William and Anna (Juffer) VanDenBerg. Alvin served in the US Navy in 1943 until 1946. He was aboard the PC781 Torpedo in the South Pacific. Alvin married Ruth Eilts on March 11, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Alvin owned and operated a livestock trucking company and a livestock business. He was involved with the Ireton American Legion Post #276 and a member at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Alvin is survived by his wife Ruth of Ireton, IA; sons, Bruce (Vickie) of Sapulpa, OK, Scott (Debra) of Orange City, IA, Tim of Ireton, IA, and Clark (Bonnie) of Ireton, IA; grandchildren, Staci, Emma (Ben), Abby, Bailey, and Jace; great-grandchildren, Norah and Ruby; brother, Clarence; and sister-in-laws, Mary and June VanDenBerg.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary and Ted; and sister-in-law, Lois VanDenBerg.
