Mr. Donald Wacome, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012, at his residence.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m., at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Rev. Karen Wacome officiated.
Donald Marshall was born on June 5, 1923, in Watertown, Massachusetts, the son of George and Mary (Marshall) Wacome. He was raised in Watertown, where he graduated from Watertown High School. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
On September 6, 1946 he married Lois Snow in Newton, Massachusetts. They made their home in Massachusetts, South Carolina, Texas, and Iowa. He was an organic chemist, worked as a research director for a division of National Starch Co., and received several patents for polymer synthesis.
Donald was a man of steadfast faith, engaging in church work, teaching, preaching, and helping to plant churches in Massachusetts and South Carolina. He enjoyed studying Scripture and reading theology. He was an avid chess player and read widely in the sciences. He was known for his generosity and Yankee wit.
Survivors include his wife of almost 66 years, a son and his wife, Donald and Karen Wacome, two granddaughters, Samantha Dellinger and Megan Meeker, and a brother, Douglas Wacome, of Lexington, Massachusetts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Marshall Wacome, a daughter, Pamela Hope Meeker, and two sisters, Grace Beers and Priscilla Benefit.
