Katherine "Kay" Beltman, age 79, of Sheldon, Iowa, formerly of Hospers, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Sanford Orange City Area Health System.
Katherine "Kay" Wilma Beltman was born on November 17, 1932 in Rock Valley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Steinburg) Van Leeuwen. She lived her youth in Rock Valley until the age of 6. Kay then moved with her family to Denver, Colorado and lived there until moving to Newkirk, Iowa. She attended Denver Christian Grade School and later attended Hospers Christian Grade School where she graduated from the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Beltman of Granville, Iowa on December 27, 1951 at the Hospers Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. They lived with Kay's brother for the first year and then moved to the Beltman Family Farm, where they farmed. In 1991, they moved into Hospers and in 2009, they moved to Fieldcrest in Sheldon.
Kay was a member of Hospers Christian Reformed Church in Hospers where she was involved in church activities when she was able.
Kay loved to bake, crochet, and spend time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life.
She passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Sanford Orange City Health System in Orange City, Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband: William "Bill" Beltman of Sheldon, IA; her children: Jerry and Jane Beltman of Hospers, IA, Shirly Hattermann of Paullina, IA, Dale Smit of Orange City, IA, Don and Linda Beltman of Sheldon, IA; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Jo and Andy Miedema of Orange City, IA, Betty Van Schepen of Hull, IA.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Verla Smit, son-in-law, Terry Hattermann, one great-grandson, Brody, her parents, 2 brothers, John Van Leeuwen and Jake "Click" Van Leeuwen, one sister, Joyce Beltman.
