Doyle O. Carpenter, Superintend of the West Sioux School died Friday at his home in Hawarden at the age of 63. Funeral service were held Wednesday morning in the high school auditorium with Rev. Everett Epperson, minister of the First Christian Church of Onawa and Rev. Hebert Gould of the First Methodist Church in Hawarden officiating. Burial services were held at the Evergreen cemetery in Red Oak under the direction of Dow Funeral Home.

Mr. Carpenter was born on May 18, 1910 at Sandyville, Iowa. He was a graduate of Simpson College, received his master’s degree from Drake University and was elected as the first president of the Iowa Girl Athletic Association. Mr. Carpenter coached at Milo, Iowa from 1931 until 1933 and was superintendent there from 1933 until 1945. From Milo, he moved to Onawa where he served as the schools superintendent from 1945 until 1961. Mr. Carpenter then moved from Onawa to Spencer in 1961 and took the superintendent there until 1965 when he became associated with the State Department of Education. He served with the State Department of Education from 1965 to 1967. In 1968 Mr. Carpenter moved to Hawarden and took over the superintendent of the West Sioux Schools. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Methodist faith, the Hawarden Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge in Hawarden, and both member of the Iowa Boys Athletic Association and Iowa Girls Athletic Association. He was also an honorary admiral in the Nebraska Navy. Mr. Carpenter Married Jane Elizabeth Ryerson on Aug. 2, 1932 in Omaha.

Survivors include the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Burtness of Minneapolis; a son Gary of Granada Hills, Calif; his mother, Mrs. George (Ivy) Carpenter of Venture, Calif. , a sister Mrs. Howard (Estyl) lee of Ojai, Calif., and six grandchildren.
