Obituary: Inwood, IA: Gerald Van Beek, 68, of Inwood, died Friday, May 25, 2012 due to a tractor accident at Inwood. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Michael Fintelman officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to Hope Haven’s Wheelchair Ministry and condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Gerald was born May 27, 1943 at Sioux Center, Iowa, son of Peter and Juliana (Schelling) Van Beek and grew up near Fairview, SD and Sioux Center, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War. Gerald married Wilmina Hoefakker on August 21, 1967. Wilmina died on December 5, 1976. Gerald married Clarice Rus on June 24, 1981 at Sioux Center. Gerald had farmed NE of Inwood for 43 years before he and Clarice had just retired to Inwood. Gerald had served on the Netherlands Reformed Christian School Board; Deacon and Elder at Heritage Reformed Congregation; and always enjoyed farming and his family.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Clarice; sons, Terry (Tami) Van Beek, Troy (Abbey) Van Beek all of Inwood; daughters, Sandra (David) Hoogendoorn of Inwood, Shonna (Joshua) DeJager of Doon, IA; 11 grandchildren, Briton, Morgan, Jordon, Maria, Stefan, Abigail, Anne, Brooklyn, Kerrigan, Micah, Karsen; brothers, Albert (Gloria) Van Beek of Inwood, Cornie (Harriet) Van Beek of Sioux Center, Ron (Crystal) Van Beek of Grand Rapids, MI, Peter (Linda) Van Beek of Canton, SD, James (Donna) Van Beek of Ireton, IA; sisters, Harriet (Dick) Bonnema of Ireton, IA, Priscilla (Harlan) Driesen of Doon, IA, Mary (Rog) DeGroot of Hull, IA, Ruth (Allen) DeJager of Maurice, IA; Wilmina’s brothers, Henry (Arlene) Hoefakker of Washington, Teunis (Ruth) Hoefakker of Rock Valley , Wilmina’s sister, Clazina (Bill) Kooiman of Rock Valley; Wilmina’s brother-in-law, Len (Trudy) Den Hoed of Sioux Falls, SD; Clarice’s parents, George H. and Jennie Rus of Rock Valley.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Wilmina; grandson, Collin Levi Van Beek; Wilmina’s parents, Henry and Clazina Hoefakker; Wilmina’s sister, Angeline Den Hoed.
