Mrs. Otto Leiff Passed Away Early Sunday at Age of 92 Years
Mrs. Otto Leiff, a pioneer of Union. county, passed away at her home several miles southwest of Hawarden. At 12:30 Sunday morning as the result of ah injury suffered in a fall. She suffered an injury over two weeks ago and then a few days later she fell again, fracturing her hip. Due to her advanced age she was unable to overcome the shock and pain and death came -as a sweet release to her suffering.

Funeral services were held at the home and the Big Springs Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Dahlquist in charge. Interment was in the Big Springs cemetery. Albertine Larson was born in Guldspong Vestergoland, Sweden, September 9, 1848, and passed away October 13, 1940, having attained the advanced age of 92 years, 1- month and 4 days. She grew to young womanhood in her native land, coming to America when 21 years old. Three years later she was united in marriage with August Erickson, who died seven weeks later by accidental drowning. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. T. E. Mc Bride of Astoria Ore. She was a widow for three years when she married Otto Leiff February 8, 1876, at Elk Point. To this union were born one son Albert, who, was the help and mainstay of his aging parents for many years, and two daughters, Mrs. Ed Johnson and Mrs. Chas. Peterson, both of whom passed away in their young womanhood.

Mrs. Leiff was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Sweden and had the privilege of the association-and fellowship of two of her classmates on her trip to America from Sweden. She possessed a gentle personality and put her faith in God. She was a land neighbor, a good mother and wife and was highly respected in the community.

Mr. Leiff preceded her in death August 7, 1931, and since then she has been kindly cared for in the home of her son and two granddaughters, Fern and Florence Peterson. For these many years she has lived on her homestead with one exception when Mr. and Mrs. Lieff made their home in Hawarden a short time. So in the passing of Mrs. Leiff this, vicinity has lost one who has lived through the developments of Our land from its wild prairie state to the one of today .with comfortable homes and well tilled, productive farms. In all this she had her share of toil and care and she is now at rest from her labors.

She leaves to mourn her death 'her daughter, Mrs. T. E. McBride of Astoria, Ore.; her son, Albert Leiff, and four grandchildren, Fern and Florence Peterson at home, Lloyd Johnson of the Big Springs community and Albert McBride of Astoria, Ore., and three great grandchildren, Anna Mae, Charles and Walter McBride of Astoria, Ore. There are also many distant relatives and friends
