Mrs. Nellie Duncan,75, of Hudson died Wednesday , March 15 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas Gourley . Mrs. Duncan came back recently from California because of her serious illness. She was submitted to surgery last January 24 and four weeks later at her request she returned to Hudson.

Mrs. Duncan was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oakes, Pioneer resident of Union county, and a sister of Henry and Glenn Oakes in whose honor the American Legion Two Oakes Post of Hawarden, was named. Her father was a Civil War veteran.

Born at Genoa Wis., June 2, 1874, she came to union County with her parents at the age of 4, locating her parents at the age of 4, locating on a farm about six miles southwest of Hawarden. While teaching school near Beresford, she met Archie M. Duncan, whom she married June 14, 1893. They lived on the Duncan homestead until 1910 when she and her husband came to Hawarden. In 1913 Mr. and Mrs. Dunnan bought a farm near Hudson and lived on it until Mr. Duncan’s death in 1933. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Duncan went to Canton to live with her daughter, Sally, who taught school. In 1941 she went to California to spend the summer with Sally and spent most of the rest of her life in the west. However, she made four trips back to her old home.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs., Rubye Gourley of Hudson , Mrs. Eva Ellis and Mrs. Viola Tschetter of Burbank, Calif., and Mrs. Sally Gibbs of North Hollywood, Calif. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church at Hudson .
