Sioux county Herald of Aug 8, 1900 p. 5
It is with sorrow we are called upon to chronicle the sudden death of Peter Marra, the sixteen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Marra of this city, which occurred at 1:30 this morning. Peter was apparently in usual health yesterday and came to the post office for the family mail about 7:30 in the evening, and after returning home played about the house until about half past nine when he was taken with hemorrhage of the lungs. Medical aid was hastily summoned and the members of the family and neighbors gathered about him doing all that loving hearts and tender hands could for his relief, but to to no avail. Two more hemorrhages occurred and he sank rapidly until death came to his relief, as above. Deceased has been a victim of heart disease since infancy and has always been a special care to his parents, hence his loss is felt more keenly. He was bright in school and companionable with his playfellows to whom his death brings much sorrow.
The funeral will occur tomorrow, Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 from the family home and at 2:00 o'clock from the First Reformed church, and will be conducted by Rev. Steffens in the Dutch language and Rev. Kolyn in the English. The pall bearers are his class-mates and are the following: Cornie Schaap, Albert Jougewaard, Harry De Kraay, Hubert Vander Meide, Harry Bolks and George Haverkamp. THE HERALD extends its sincerest; sympathy to the bereaved family.

Died, Aug. 8th, 1900, in the youthful age of 16 years and 1 month, our beloved son and brother, Peter. It pains us deeply that we have been called upon to part with him, but we desire to bow to the will of our heavenly Father, who doeth all things well. We believe in the God of the covenant, who has promised to be our God and the God of our seed is our comfort. We feel indebted to our neighbors and friends for the labor of love, which they, with untiring devotion, have rendered us in our distress; we render them our grateful acknowledgment for all their services.
