December 15. 1904—January 6, 1993
Kathryn Julia Marie DeJager, 93, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, January 6, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Services were Friday at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery.
Mrs. DeJager was born on December 15, 1904, the daughter of William and Kathryn Elizabeth (Nieuwenhof) Schouten. Her family lived at Perkins, Sioux Center, Rock Valley and Ireton, where she was graduated from Ireton High School. She married Andrew DeJager on January 2, 1925, in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple lived in Ireton and the Rock Valley area, where they were involved in trucking and farming. They retired and moved into Rock Valley in 1968. Her husband died on May 14, 1981. She entered the Valley Manor in Rock Valley in July 1995. She was a member of First Reformed Church and the Ladies' Aid Circle.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Vern and Josephine of Rock Valley and Andrew Jr. and Barbara of Yankton, South Dakota; two daughters and their husbands, Phyllis and Clifford Van Berkum of Swea City and Wilma and Arthur Gerritson
of Rock Valley; a sister, Esther Postma of Orange City; a sister-inlaw, Grace Schouten of Sioux City, 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Cooper; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two brothers.
