January 19, 1933—February 7, 1994
Duane O. Liston, 61, of Hawarden died Monday, February 7, at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 11, at the Associated Church of Hawarden with the Rev. Willard Galloway officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden. Liston was born January 19, 1933, in Hawarden the son of Orlen and Tena (Jager) Liston. He attended school at Hawarden and Central High
School in Sioux City. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956. He married Marilyn Bruhn June 6, 1959, in Lombard, Illinois. He worked in construction and later owned and operated a filling station in the Chicago area. He married Donna Halvorsen Wates September 23, 1978, in Alcester, South Dakota. The couple lived at Hawarden, where he worked for Sioux Fertilizer, Inc. as a sales representative for more than 10 years, until illness forced him to retire in 1993. He was a member of the West Sioux Sportsman's Club, the ag committee of the Hawarden Chamber of Commerce, Hawarden Fraternal Order of Eagles and Hawarden American Legion.
He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Duane "Butch" and his fiancee Susan of Downers Grove, Illinois, and Randy and his wife Cheryl of El Paso, Texas; a daughter and her husband. Sherry and Kevin Jacobs of Akron; two stepdaughters, Ronda Ramirez of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Marsha Parker of Kentucky; nine brothers and wives, Lee and Mayona of Hawarden, Lloyd and Lillian of Ireton, Daryl and Wilma of Sherburn, Minnesota, Wesley and Barb of Lovilia, Lawrence and Dianna of Alcester, South Dakota, Norman and Karen of St. Paul, Minnesota; James and Karen of Kennedale, Texas, Roger of Hawarden and Dick and Judy of Hawarden; five sisters and their husbands, Myra and Harold Heuer of Rock Valley, Neva and Bud Busch of Hawarden, Betty and Lloyd Gronemeyer of Arnolds
Park, Darlene and Ray Rummel of Hawarden and Cindy McKee Holmberg of Hawarden; a sister-in-law, Viola Liston of Hawarden; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard; and a sister, Vivian Finch.
