Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Stella Van Veldhuizen, 86, of Rock Valley, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Service will be 2 pm Monday at Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation with family will be 6:30-8 pm Saturday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Stella was born November 17, 1925 at Lynnville, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Maassen) Huyser. Stella married John Van Veldhuizen on January 3, 1947 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed near Doon, Iowa. Stella worked at Vince’s Grocery at Doon and later was a cook at Valley Manor and Netherlands Reformed Christian School. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and also hand quilting. John died on April 21, 1990. Stella moved to Rock Valley in 1992.
Stella is survived by sons, Bill (Charlene) Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, Lee (Jaci) Van Veldhuizen of Doon, IA; daughters, Karen (Ron) Post of Rock Valley, Alvina Van Veldhuizen of Sioux Falls, SD; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Freda (Jake) Van Voorst. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth; husband, John; great-granddaughter, Elise Post; brothers, John, Cornie, and Raymond Huyser.
