Wallace E. Doornink
(November 17, 1923 - April 6, 2012)Le Mars, Iowa - Wallace E. Doornink, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012 at Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Le Mars Bible Church. Pastor Fred Gums will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church and will continue until service time.
Wallace Edwin Doornink was born on November 17, 1923 in Sioux County, Iowa, the son of Derrick "Dick" E. and Julia (Wenneker) Doornink. He graduated from Sioux Center (Iowa) High School in 1941 and spent the next two years studying at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Wally completed his degree at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he focused his studies on the food industry and business management.
On May 11, 1948 Wally and Marjorie Lambert were united in marriage at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home on the Doornink family farm north of Le Mars. Wally farmed with his father and raised award winning mink, sheep, cattle, hogs and horses. During these years he studied animal husbandry and dairy nutrition at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He would later become head of production at Harkers' in Le Mars, a position he held for 20 years.
Wally was a member of the Le Mars Bible Church and Hilltoppers. He was a 4-H leader and assisted many young people with their animal projects. Together Wally and Marge built bird houses as a hobby.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marjorie of Le Mars, IA; a daughter and her husband Kathleen and Donald Budd of Florence, CO; a daughter, Twila Caudron of Florence, CO; a son and his wife Richard and Roberta Doornink of Cameron, MO; 4 grandchildren: Holly Gonzalez, Lee Allen Morris and his wife Mitzi, Ruth Hammontree and Reuben Doornink and his wife Dana; 7 great-grandchildren: Matthew and Heather Gonzalez, Bradley and Nicholas Morris, Hope Hammontree, Leah and Griffon Doornink.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son David.
