Esther A. Schreur
Mrs. Esther Schreur, age 95, of Orange City, passed away Sunday, October 25, 1998 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. There was a memorial service on Wednesday, October 28, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment was prior to the service at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Esther Anna was born May 23,1903, in Orange City, the daughter of Gerrit and Hattie (De Gooyer) Pas. She was raised in Orange City. On January 1, 1926, she married Edward Harold Schreur in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City. Mr. Schreur passed away May 14,1985, in Orange City. In November of 1996, Mrs. Schreur became a resident of the Heritage House. She was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church, where in earlier years, she had been involved in the women's organizations. To many in the community, she was known as "the
cookie lady".
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, David and Anna Ruth Schreur of Ankeny; and Don and Nelva Schreur of Orange City; her daughter, Joy Vellinga of State Center; seven grandchildren, Sharon Suddeth of Los Angeles, California; Susan Berray of Omaha, Nebraska; Robert Schreur of Clermont; The Rev. Edward Schreur of Brookings, South Dakota; James
Vellinga of State Center; Kim Karsjen of State Center; and Matthew Vellinga of Des Moines; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Wesley Pas, of Sioux City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
