CORNELIA VAN KLOMPENBURG
Mrs. Cornelia Van Klompenburg, age 100, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2007, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, October 29, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church Chapel in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 1:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Cornelia, who was known as "Cora", was born on October 6, 1907, at Orange City, the daughter of Jacob and Lena (Ter Horst) Stander. She was raised at Orange City, where she attended a country school. She graduated from the Northwestern Classical Academy in Orange City, as valedictorian of the class of 1926. She then was a teacher in country schools for several years.
On January 26, 1933, she married Henry Van Klompenburg in Orange City. They farmed southeast of Orange City, where she was a homemaker. In 1972, they retired into Orange City. Henry passed away on December 21, 1985, in Orange City.
In January of 2004, Mrs. Van Klompenburg became a resident of the Heritage House.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school classes and participated in the women's organizations, including Bible studies and circles.
Cora enjoyed baking, flowers, playing piano, sewing, and helping others. She was also a 4-H leader for many years.
She loved her family unconditionally, but most of all, she loved Jesus.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Roger and Maxine Van Klompenburg, of Sioux City; and Stan and Pat Van Klompenburg, of Arlington Heights, Illinois; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Lou Massmann, of Paullina; a son-in-law and his wife, Gerald and Judy Jongerius, of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Michael Van Klompenburg; Joel Jongerius, and his wife, Kim; Jerry Jongerius, and his wife, Carol; Steven Van Klompenburg; Susan Van Klompenburg; Karen, and her husband, Dennis Murphy; Julie, and her husband, Dave Reinders; Jane, and her husband, Chad Weber; and Rachel, and her husband, Iftikhar Ahmad; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Johanna Van Klompenburg, of Orange City.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Jongerius; two brothers, John and Dick Stander; and two sisters, Minnie Rowenhorst and Johanna Van't Hof.
